Susan Romano is the contact person. Phenomenal Science, is a conceptual physics class for non-science majors and follows the SCALE-UP model very closely: it’s an inquiry-based, collaborative class where students follow a guide book, recording everything in journals. The book prompts students for prior knowledge, the lab tables are loaded with equipment and supplies for each class, students actively engage in hands-on work, make observations, record data from experiments, and analyze results. They make predictions, graph data, curve-fit results, and arrive at conclusions (there are computers available). They discuss everything at tables of 4 and rotate their seats weekly. Teachers spend their time coaching and prompting, asking and answering questions rather than lecturing and the students do the content reading for homework. The course has two sections taught by Susan Romano and John Odgers.
