The Miami University Physics Department (MUPD) teaches all sections of calculus
based and algebra based introductory physics courses in the SCALE-UP
environment, and has been since 2014.
MUPD
currently operates two large SCALE-UP Classrooms each with eleven triangular
tables, three collaborative groups of three students each at each table, for a
total of 99 students per SCALE-UP room.

Currently,
MUPD teaches six sections of calculus based introductory Physics, MWF.
There
are 99 students/section, two sections at a time using both SCALE-UP rooms
concurrently, a total of 594 students per semester.

MUPD teaches four sections of algebra based introductory Physics, TR,
Again,
99 students/section within any given semester, a total of 396 students per
semester.
Both
of MUPD SCALE-UP Classrooms were designed with collapsible walls so that each
SCALE-UP room can be divided into three small classrooms with independently
operable Audio/Visual services.
This
allows the SCALE-UP to be used for other uses and functionality and as such,
are in high demand.
Miami University is considering the
construction of more SCALE-UP Classrooms for implementation of SCALE-UP in
other Departments.
MUPD
is currently developing and refining its SCALE-UP curriculum and resources, and
hopes to share information regarding introductory physics course developments
and hands on resources within the function of this SCALE-UP Members and
Adopters website.
