Education room 627 and Burnside room 511 are state-of-the-art Active Learning Classrooms funded by the Teaching and Learning Spaces Working Group (www.mcgill.ca/tlswg) whose design and technology features support student-faculty interaction, active and collaborative learning, and a supportive campus environment. At 72 and 38 seats respectively, these spaces welcomed 40 courses from 7 Faculties over the course of the 2009-2010 academic year. Features such as round tables, writeable walls, screen-sharing software, computers and laptop ports for student collaboration, dual-source projection, and mobile chairs contribute to a classroom environment that is intended to enhance student engagement. A wide variety of courses are offered, including the development of “wet labs” for chemistry and biology.
A third ALC is being built in Summer 2010 at our Macdonald Campus.
